With the recent death of the young man named Trayvon Martin in Florida and all of the controversy surrounding this tragic incident, a great number of people are more focused on the race issue than the real problems in the black communities. But on April 5, 2012, Felicia Cherry-Collins, alongside Councilman Johnny Dodd, organized a march in hopes to stop black on black crime. Councilman Scott Conger and personal development coach Rocky Miller also contributed to make this gathering memorable. Councilman Dodd led the march with his own personal chant for the marchers. As people marched, they repeated his words,“Up with hope, down with dope - Drug dealers get on the run, murderers your day is done - Jackson, Tennessee is our community - we need more men to get involved…” After marchers reached the City Hall, Johnny Dodd spoke to the crowd, “This march is not just about Trayvon Martin but the young men that we are losing to everyday violence.

Saint Louis is quickly becoming a hotbed for awards recognition shows. Hotlist Inc., Re-Mix Awards Show, St. Louis Nights Magazine Tavern Night Awards, St. Louis American Achievement Awards and Traffic Music Awards are amongst the many events that have been taking place in St. Louis in recent years.

Now, National Poetry Awards, founded in Raleigh, North Carolina in June of 2009, will be convening in St. Louis for their 3^rd annual event. Silent Myndz Entertainment Group of Auburn, Washington founder/show creator Troy Poet Lewis will join the ranks of talented poets who will bless St. Louis with poet justice.

 

National Poetry Awards is the foundation for poetry communities across America. Awarding and recognizing poets and spoken word artists for talents, humanity, leadership and their passion.

 

Troy’s Creative Empowerment member Charlotte Lewis is part of the media and publishing team. She has retained St. Louis’ own Independent media The Newsletter to help them market the event that will take place this summer Aug 17-19^th at The Regional Commission Center in the Delmar Loop.

 

The Newsletter job is to do what they do best, promote and market. The Newsletter has already set up a venue host the historical Bismark Restaurant & Lounge as a meet & greets center for poets and the coordinators as the event grows closer to the date.

 

Additionally there will be other location in the St. Louis area that will host month long activities to start delegating nominees for the awards show. This is said to be a great event and St. Louis should be honored to be hosting this fabulous show.
